Should You Invest in a Hair Steamer?

Throughout the natural community there is much rave about the use of hair steamers. Hair steamers are said to have HUGE benefits for curly hair, especially afro textured. Steamers use water to moisturize the hair without making it feel damp. Many people with dry scalps or just naturally dry textured hair seem to have great benefits from using it regularly. This is simply because steamers add "moist heat" to hair instead of dry heat.

Through different blogs and consumer reviews I have come up with a list of a few pros and cons to buying a hair steamer. Hopefully it can help you in the search to "the perfect hair".

Table Top Steamer

  • Pros:
      1. Adds moisture to dry hair.
      2. Many say it leaves hair soft and shiny.
      3. More volume, especially with people who previously experienced fine hair.
      4. Helps the effectiveness of light, water-based conditioners.
      5. Overall healthier, stronger hair.
      6. Some can also be used as a face steamer.
  • Cons:
      1. Steamers tend to be very pricey. Ranging from around $36 to $120 depending on the brand, type, and quality.
      2. Some consumers didn't experience a change at all.
      3. Some consumers liked the idea but didn't feel it made a big enough difference in their hair to incorporate it into their daily styling regimen.
      4. The standing steamers are bulky and aren't a good investment if you're tight on space.

Throughout my research I couldn't help but notice the reoccurring complaints about how faulty they could be at times. One person complained about how the steam began to escape the dome before it reached her hair. Others complained about the steam not working after just
a handful of uses.

Overall, this product seems like a hit or miss with hair. There are many people who swear by it and couldn't imagine living without it. Others didn't experience a change in their hair or wasn't impressed. This doesn't make me afraid to try this product, I would love to invest in one. This is just like any other product. With products there are people who LOVE them while others don't. It's all about YOU. Give it a try! Go to a salon who uses them and test them out or take the jump and buy one. This could be your new fav staple in your regimen. If it doesn't work, don't be discouraged. There's plenty of other products in the sea......or target. Lol

Stay Blessed,
